From Glass Mosaic to Porcelain Tile: A Pool Reborn in a Modern Villa

Led by Aydan Güneş, co-founder and interior architect of MAP Design, this pool renovation project breathes new life into the outdoor area of a villa that has worn down over time. The project represents not only an aesthetic transformation but also a remarkable example of renewal in terms of material quality, durability, and a holistic design approach.

The villa’s existing pool was previously covered with glass mosaics, surrounded by plastic gratings and wooden deck areas. Over time, these materials suffered deformation, colour fading, and cracks, eventually losing their comfort and usability.
Aydan Güneş summarizes the project with the following words:
“The pool surface was covered with glass mosaics, and its surroundings featured plastic gratings and a wooden pool deck. Over time, the materials deformed and became unusable. In addition, there were insulation problems with the pool. For this reason, we decided that a renovation was necessary.”
After conducting a detailed analysis, the design team aimed not only to renovate the pool but to modernize the entire structure holistically. Güneş describes this approach as follows:
“To achieve a modern, aesthetic, and long-lasting pool that harmonizes with the overall architecture of the house, we used Serapool’s Porcelain Pool Tiles, Olympic Pool Coping, porcelain monoblock hidden grating, and porcelain Anti Slip Terrace Tiles.”
This choice brought a fresh perspective to the project not only visually but also technically. The transition from glass mosaic to porcelain tiles created a significant improvement in surface integrity and hygiene. The low water absorption rate, durability, and colour stability of porcelain material not only met the project’s functional needs but also enhanced the modern aesthetic of the space.

After the renovation, the pool was transformed into a minimalist yet sophisticated outdoor area that perfectly integrates with the villa’s architecture. Thanks to Serapool’s porcelain products, the insulation issues were resolved, and a durable surface was achieved that will maintain its quality for many years.
“Thus, we not only enhanced the pool’s visual appeal but also achieved a long-lasting structure with high material quality.”
